it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this? How on earth had this happened? How did little Miss Olivia May Hayni find herself getting ready for a date… with Seta of all people?! He was the furthest thing you could get from her type of guy; he was rough around the edges with a sarcastic tongue that gave her a run for her money. She was used to dating socially accepted, well mannered, model-like guys. Standing in front of her floor to ceiling mirror, swiping another layer of her favourite brown-nude lipstick, the blonde racked her brain once again for the reasons why this was happened. A. Stupid. Challenge. And Liv was never one to back from a challenge, so here she was. Colton was still away in New York, so there was no reason to tell him of the stupid thing she was about to do; it wasn’t like he’d find out that his girlfriend had been on a date with another guy. What… no… this wasn’t a date. This was just two people going to the movies. And to be honest; Liv just wanted to make Seta buy her another iceiee.
After spending twenty minutes longer than necessary in the shower; trying to think of ways out of this without losing face – of which she thought of nada; Liv had dressed in a red off the shoulder top and a pair of her favourite comfy Levi jeans. It was an attempt to dress as casually as possible while still looking high fashion. It wasn’t like she was trying to impress anyone anyway. It was an outfit that she would have worn to hang out with friends; or so she tried to tell herself anyway. After getting out of the shower, she had blow dried her hair; something that she did anyway… not that she done it just because she was going out…….and it now hung in loose waves around her shoulders. Her makeup was kept natural, giving her a glow but not full on glamour. With a sigh, she grabbed her black mules that she’d chosen to wear and stomped down to the living room where her sister was sat watching Friends.
”Can you go instead of me? He’d never know,” she asked, fluttering her eyelashes at her sister as she leant against the back of their sofa. ”Oh hell no. You got yourself into this, you can get yourself out of it,” Rubie was the one person that Livy had no secrets from, partly because she was her best friends but also because they had some weird twin telepathy going on. ”It’s just watching a movie with a… friend…" she was speaking to herself more than Rubie, and the word friend hung on her tongue like a bad taste. Seta and her certainly were not friends. ”Well have fun hanging out with a friend.” Liv picked up a pillow and threw it at her sister, before slipping her feet into her shoes and grabbing her things; phone, purse, keys. ”Thanks for nothing. Mom, I’m going to the movies. See ya later,” And with that, she headed out into the driveway and into her white Range Rover.
The arrangements as to where and when she was meeting Seta had been vague. Part of her wondered whether or not he was even going to show up. She already had the fear of standing outside the movies on her own waiting for a date… no friend… that was never coming. The drive was short to the movie theatre, and before she was read, she found herself parked up in the small parking lot. Grabbing her purse, Liv made her way out to the front of the theatre, intending to meet him out front when he arrived. While she waited, Liv flicked through the free magazine that announced what movies were coming soon and what critics thought of them.
~~
”Hello Mrs Hayni, is Olivia home?” Colton asked when Mrs Hayni answered the phone. ”I’m sorry Colton, you’ve just missed her. She has gone to the movies. How is New York?” ”New York was great thank you Mrs Hayni, we came home early. My father had business to attend to. I was hoping to take Olivia out for a surprise dinner,” ”Call me Amanda, please, Colton. Well I’m sure she’ll be pleased to see you! She’s down at the Cresthouse Theatre I think. Go surprise her. Have her home by 10 though please,” ”Of course, Amanda. Thank you. Have a good night,” Click.

eta had gotten himself into some crazy situations before, but this had to top the charts. His sense of adventure, not to mention his desire to drive one Miss Pain in the Ass Hayni crazy had ultimately led to… this. There was a real sort of thrill that went along with the plans for the evening. Not because he was going on a date with someone else’s girlfriend, but because he was going to be able to show her just what she was missing out on when she overlooked guys like him. Yes, he was trouble. He was rough around the edges. But he could also be a decent guy. Girls he’d dated previously had told him that. Now he just had to prove it to the most stubborn creature on the planet. He’d spent a surprising amount of time getting ready, though part of that had been due to the fact he’d made a last-minute decision late in the afternoon to dye his hair. The blue had been turning a weird seafoam-green color, so he’d stripped out the color with Midori’s help, and dyed it a bright red instead. There were still dark areas where his naturally dark brunette hair was growing back from the last intense bleaching he’d given it, but overall he liked it. Picking out what to wear had taken longer than he had liked. He wasn’t doing a monkey suit, not even close, but he didn’t want to turn up in jeans and a hoodie, either. After some digging, he’d produced a plaid button up that he layered overtop a plain black t-shirt he’d taken the sleeves off of ages ago. His jeans had seen better days, but were the most intact of all his pants, so they would do. As for his rings and earrings, he slid on just a few, and poked an assortment of studs into his earlobes, while his solid ring in his upper ear stayed put. Wallet, jacket, keys, and he was ready to go. His parents had stopped asking about his ins and outs, though Midori had waved him off with a smile. It was nice that at least one person in his family didn’t think he was a total screw up. With the new motor installed and running beautifully in his black Impala, Seta cruised to the theatre in decent time, and slipped into a parking spot. He’d already seen the red top that seemed to be acting like a beacon. Just… not a great one. Shaking his head as he approached his date for the night, he slipped off his leather jacket and draped it over her shoulders. “Wearing something like that is gonna get you all kinds of the wrong kind of attention, Kid.” The jacket was old, and smelled of a combination of leather, smoke, and a faint hint of cinnamon and mint – both from gum that was always stored in the inside pockets. “You pick a movie yet?” He was reasonably content to go with the flow in that regard. He’d sat through enough chick flicks with his sister, not to mention when he was looking for a quick way to get into a girl’s good books, to care if they watched one or not. “Should probably avoid horror, for obvious reasons. Someone has a habit of spilling stuff when they’re scared.” He offered a quick, crooked grin to show he was only kidding. … Sort of. ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this? Liv glanced up at the sound of Seta’s voice and the feel of something being hungover her shoulders with a list of sarcastic torts on the tip of her tongue. But they disappeared instantly when her blue eyes found his hair – his once blue black hair was now fire truck red. ”Wow… your hair is… bright,” It actually suited him, but she wasn’t about to tell him that and stroke his ego; it was already inflated enough. Eventually, after a beat too long, she was able to tear her eyes off of his hair and she took in the rest of his appearance. He actually looked like he’d made an effort. Not the effort that he had at the Regatta; though something told her that he had been made to wear that suit and it wasn’t him; but he’d tried nevertheless and this time he looked comfortable. It was a new side of him. His lack of jacket perplexed her for a moment before she remembered the comment and placing of something on her shoulders; glancing down it confirmed her though; it was his leather jacket.
”What wearing nice clothes? And what do you mean bad attention, I don’t see any bad attention,” Liv glanced around. Sure there were a few guys gawking at her, but she was used to it; and kind of enjoyed it – it was an ego boost letting her know that she looked hot in her outfit choice. ”Are you jealous?” she challenged, cocking a perfectly arched eyebrow at him with a cheeky grin. The leather jacket did not go with her outfit, and it smelt a little old and smokey, but she hadn’t realised how chilly she actually was until she had the warmth of a jacket around her. Sometimes fashion was pain. Part of her wanted to shrug it off and hand it back to him… no man dictated to her what to wear. But at the same time, she kind of wanted to play fair tonight. She didn’t wanna start the back and forth insults that they’d shared before. ”Thanks, anyway.” Liv slid her arms through the long sleeves, retuning the magazine back to the stand.
The blonde thought back for a moment over the movies that she had just looked at, and shrugged her shoulders. She hadn’t really thought that far ahead of actually watching a movie… ”I don’t mind,” Honestly, she’d kind of forgotten everything she’d just read in the magazine; she hadn’t exactly read it for information, it had just been something to do to kill the few minutes of being alone. ”You’re right. You’re a right jitter bug with horror movies aren’t you?” she quipped back, returning his crooked grin with her own. ”You still owe me for that by the way. You can buy me an extra large one when we go inside. Popcorn too.” For a moment, she half expected him to comment about popcorn going straight to her ass.
Her eyes scanned the movie posters that were hanging on the wall and her eyes landed one with two guys dressed as British police officers on it. Nodding her head towards it, she asked, ”How about that one…? Hot Fuzz?” Liv had absolutely no idea what it was about, but for once she too was happy to go with the flow. Usually she liked to be in control somewhat, and at the movies she usually chose the latest chick flick with Jennifer Anniston or Sandra Bullock. Tonight however, she was so far out of her comfort zone she thought screw it. What’s the worst that could happen? After all, she was already on a date with a guy that just a few days ago she actually despised. ”So… shall we go in or are we waiting for anyone else…?”

art of Seta was almost braced for some kind of biting comment, which in fairness was… kind of fair. He’d started it. But the comment about his hair was far from expected. Smirking, he lifted a hand to it in a classically self-conscious move. “Yeah. The blue was fading, so my sister helped me do this.” He’d be smelling hair dye for the next few days, which wasn’t exactly a plus, but her reaction? That was a plus. “Yours would be real easy to dye, or at least streak. You get to skip the pain in the ass bleaching step.” Not that he thought she would bite and actually do it, not in a million years. Her precious daddy would probably give her heck over coloring that pretty honey colored hair. … No. Not pretty. It wasn’t pretty. Not by a long shot. “Nice clothes that once again barely count as clothes. I can’t take you anywhere without flashing some skin, can I?” As for the bad attention, he glanced around to the few guys who were gawking, though they seemed to have backed off slightly since he’d shown up. “I’m not jealous, I just don’t like guys looking at women like they’re objects.” Even as annoying as Livy was, she didn’t deserve that. She also didn’t deserve to be cold, and in a shirt like that, cold was happening, like it or not. He had two layers on under his jacket, so he could spare it. It was miles too big, but at least it was warm. “Don’t worry about it. I’d rather you be out of fashion than cold. I saw that face you made.” Why fashion was so important, he’d never know. He’d rather be warm than able to walk down a runway any day. “You don’t mind? That’s shocking out of your mouth. Here I thought you had an opinion on everything.” He was careful to keep his tone from dipping into being too harsh, because he wasn’t out to cause a fight tonight. He was just out to fulfill a challenge, and prove to Liv that there was a whole lot she was missing out on. “Yeah, that’s me. Total jitterbug. Nothing too scary. I’m thinking along the lines of Care Bears should be about right.” This was a different kind of verbal sparring match, and he couldn’t say he hated it. Sarcasm had been second nature to him for years, after all, and this wasn’t much different. “Yeah yeah, I’ll buy. At least you learned your lesson this time. You wore red.” He followed her gaze to the movie posters, wondering what was going on in her mind. Probably some girl movie, which he’d live through. Probably. Yet when she made her suggestion, he looked at the poster. … Cops? Explosion? “… Sure, we can do that one. Come on.” Much like he had at the carnival, he offered his arm to her and headed inside. Once they were in he was quick to pay for the tickets, and got in line for snacks. It was kind of weird doing things the right way, instead of sneaking in, but he doubted that sneaking around without paying was going to prove a good point to Liv. “What size popcorn do you want?” Out of sheer habit, Seta’s hand came to rest on Liv’s lower back, just to keep her close to him. The lobby was busy, and he didn’t want to get separated. It was less because he liked her or anything, and more because it was simply something he did when he was with a girl. Hell, he even did it with his sister now and again. “We should get candy, too. Balanced dinner, and all that.” ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this? ”Ha. I think I’ll stick to blonde, thanks.” Liv snorted at Seta’s comment. There was no way she was bold enough to try a colour as wild as red or even blue-black. Blonde and brunette were her comfort zones; she preferred to express herself through her clothes rather than her hair. For a moment, she stood, taking in his new look. It was strange seeing him without his usual black mop of hair. ”You’re worse than a girl when it comes to your hair then?” she teased. She’d bleached her hair before, when she’d had platinum blonde streaked through her hair; and boy it had cause her hair to become dry and brittle; it had taken a lot of conditioning to make it healthier again. For a moment, the blonde found herself wanting to run her fingers through his hair, just to see…
Barely count as clothes!? She glanced down at her top. She hadn’t thought it was that revealing; it certainly wasn’t the most revealing thing in her closet anyway. ”I bet you have a cardiac when you see someone in a bikini if you think this is flashing some skin,” Liv replied, every word dripping with teasing sarcasm. These days, people were prudes. People claimed they wanted equality for women, yet they were always frowned upon for showing off their body and guys were always praised for it. ”Relax. They’re not looking at me like I’m an object. They are checking me out. Something that you’d already admitted to doing yourself. So hush.” It was odd, they were still being sarcastic with each other, but this was different to every other time they had done it; and Liv couldn’t put her finger on why exactly. Though, she did roll her eyes at his comment about her being out of fashion with his jacket on. Some people just didn’t understand. Plus, she’d been hoping he’d missed her gratification of being warmer, apparently not. ”Yes dad,”
”I’ve been known to shock and surprise occasionally,” Liv tossed her hair over her shoulder, shooting Seta a wicked grin. ”Could say the same for you though. Didn’t think you’d be the type to even consider a chick flick. Not one for a Sandy B film,” The idea of him sitting in a movie theatre watching some cheese-y chick flick romcom film was actually comical, making her giggling to herself. It was weird, she found herself actually enjoying herself and freely smiling. Maybe tonight wasn’t going to be a total write off after all. ”I think Care Bears may be right up your streets; after all you enjoy talking to stuffed animals, right?” she said, thinking back to the fateful day that that landed her here on this date. He’d won her a stuffed octopus teddy that he’d insisted had spoken to him. ”Har har har. Don’t take that as a green light to spill it on me again. This top is new,” Technically last time it was her jeans that were ruined, but whatever.
Once inside the theatre lobby, Liv waited patiently for him to purchase the tickets and soon found herself in line waiting for snacks. Her body stiffed at the light touch of Seta’s hand on her back. It wasn’t something that she had been expecting; and honestly she wasn’t sure how to react…. It wasn’t like she didn’t like it… ”Uhh.. can’t we just share?” She wasn’t about to shove a whole portion of popcorn into her face in front of him; so it would be a waste of food and money. ”I’ll have a blue iceiee though,” She smirked, contradicting his previous “you wore red” comment. The teen was about to reply to his words with a comment about whether or not this was a tactic for fattening her ass up when a familiar voice called out her name. And this time, she stiffed out of fear. Her eyes growing wide.
Colton drove his Mercedes away from the Hayni residence, heading towards the Cresthouse movie theatre. It was your typical cinema that local residence of this area of Seattle frequented. In fact, the last time that Colton had been there was with Livy. She’d disappeared half way through the movie; claimed that she’d got chatting to an old friend, but he was sure it was something to do with the weirdo who had been sat next to her. It was a short drive to the theatre, and it wasn’t long before Colton found himself pulling up into the space next to the familiar white Range Rover. Checking his reflection in the mirror, making sure his hair looked good, Colton climbed out of his car and made his way to the entrance; clicking the lock button on his key over his shoulder.
He didn’t know what film Livy was seeing, but he was hoping to run into her in the lobby… even if he had to wait awhile. Pulling the door open, he slipped inside the lobby of the movie theatre, sliding off his Raybans and sliding them into the button of his shirt. Automatically, his eyes began to scan around all the faces, searching for his girlfriend. It wasn’t as busy as usual, so it didn’t take long for him to find Olivia’s blonde hair in the crowd. Instinctively, Colton looked at who she was with; he knew all her friends well enough to be able to gate crash their evening and steal Liv away. Only… this wasn’t a friend… well At least Colton didn’t think he was a friend. In fact, he was sure he knew him… yeah he did… he was that senior kid that transferred last year from some other city. He hadn’t been someone that Colton would associated with; rumour had it, he'd had to move here to Seattle because he beat up some girl scout when she told him she was out of cookies.
This wasn’t right. Why was she with him?! And his hand looked like it was resting on the base of her back! Colton found his hands clenching into fists at his side; though throwing a punch was not something he did – it didn’t mean he didn’t get the urge. Taking a deep breath, he unclenched his fist, and began crossing the lobby towards Liv. ”Olivia,” he spoke, sounding cool, calm and collected. ”What’s going on?”
Livy stuttered, her mouth forming a small ‘o’ shape as she turned to take in the six foot something guy that was her boyfriend Colton. ”Colton!” she squeaked, ”What are you doing here?!”. ”I came home early to surprise you… but I think the real question here is what is going on?”

h, so she was going to play that game, was she? “Really? What happened to that sense of adventure? Or sorry, no. Whimsy?” He remembered her poking fun at him and his supposed lack of sense of whimsy. He liked adventure as much as the next guy, but it was a little hard to enjoy the idea of making off with a fancy boat when he was fighting motion sickness as much as he’d had to. “Blue might look cute. You never know. One little rebellious streak.” The idea was downright comical, with somewhat uptight Livy sporting some kind of wild colour. “Psh, no.” He scoffed lightly and shook his head. “Dyeing it doesn’t make it girly. And you’re lucky most days it’s even brushed.” That was a bit of a stretch of the truth, but he was proving a point, thank you. He’d been lucky that he could get away with not fully bleaching his hair. His sister had helped him strip only a little color out. If he let the dye fade too much, his hair turned a weird copper color, but at least it made a good base for the red. Doing it that way, she’d promised that his hair wouldn’t go to crap, and she’d been right. It would feel a little gritty for a few days with the new dye, but by the time he washed it again? Perfectly acceptably soft. “Again with the old man jokes? Talk about beating a dead horse, Liv. For your information, girls can do whatever the hell they want to show off their bodies. I just didn’t like how they were looking at you. Sorry for being chivalrous.” If Liv ever managed to lure him to the beach, he wouldn’t be incredibly thrilled with the idea of her running around in a bikini, though he supposed he could give her credit for having the confidence to wear one. Hell, he still didn’t like being shirtless if he could help it, and that was after a few years of working out. Some days he still felt like the fat kid in the back of the class, which was probably no surprise considering he still carried a few mental scars, and the odd physical one from a fight that left marks. “Honey, there’s checking you out, and then there’s what they’re doing. Big difference.” If she wanted to pretend otherwise, that was her problem, not his. “For your information, I was doing the former.” If he had to admit to it, at least she’d know which way around it had been. It had been hard not to check her out at the Regatta. As for the comment about him acting like a Dad, he bit down on his urge to point out she’d already admitted to being a Daddy’s girl. He could behave better than that. Slightly. “Are you calling me a chicken in the most roundabout way possible? I can handle chick flicks. I grew up with a sister, and I know how to make girls happy. They like chick flicks, so I take ‘em to them.” He shrugged casually. She could judge all she wanted – it wouldn’t bother him. “Oh yeah, I’m the stuffie whisperer. How’s Ace and the fish, by the way?” Hopefully the fish hadn’t met his fate in a watery grave, and was actually being looked after. She’d said she would, but who knew if she would actually follow through? “I’m not spilling anything. Relax, Princess. I said best behaviour, remember?” He was here to prove a point, and spilling crap everywhere wasn’t exactly driving it home. Seta thought he’d felt Liv shift when he’d placed his hand on her back, but he wasn’t positive. But she hadn’t pushed him off, or moved away completely, so he left it there. “Yeah, we can share if you want to.” He didn’t care, though the mention of the blue drink made him smirk. “Oh good, that’ll match your jeans.” He stepped up to the counter to order the popcorn and drinks, and was just pulling out his wallet from his back pocket when he heard the voice of the one and only Dopey. Scowling, he paid quickly and shoved his wallet back again. The way he talked to her bothered him more than the guys outside checking her out had. Setting his jaw slightly, he brought the popcorn and iceiee over and offered them to Liv before eyeing up Colton. The kid was slightly taller than him, but he wasn’t as broad. The one thing Seta was grateful for was his somewhat stocky build. It came in handy in a scrap, and by the look on Colton’s face, he’d be grateful for it now. “She’s not your property, Kid. She’s just going to the movies with a friend. Is that against the law now?” He supposed it came off vaguely threatening, but he was going for the intimidation factor here. Colton didn’t control Liv, and they’d been having fun. Who was he to ruin it? ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this? Livy rolled her eyes dramatically at Seta spouting her own words back at her. ”I have whimsy, but doing something to my hair that may clash with an outfit is not whimsy, it’s stupid. Natural colours go with any outfit.” It was true that the blonde planned most things around her fashion; even things down to how she wore her hair. Some tops just didn’t work well with wearing her hair down and vice versa. ”It’s the price you pay for fashion,” she said, as a matter of fact. ”The closest I’d consider is maybe dip dyed ends of my hair…” Liv tried to ignore the feeling that bubbled up inside her when he said she may look cute with a little blue in her hair… if she didn’t acknowledge the feeling, it wasn’t there, right? It was probably just awkwardness of it being Seta that had just used the world cute. She couldn’t stop the laugh and the grin that spread across her face as his reaction. ”Oh well I’m flattered you worked out how to use a brush for this… for tonight,” Automatically, Liv began twisting her own hair around her finger as she spoke.
Was he just being chivalrous? Cotillion had taught her how to present herself as a lady and what to expect from a chivalrous male, and honestly so far Seta wasn’t exactly what the rule books as told her to expect. Then again, the rulebooks did tell her to dress modestly and something told her that tight jeans and top probably wasn’t deemed acceptable in the cotillion world either. ”Didn’t have you down as someone who cared about the way guys looked at me…” Liv challenged with a crook of her eyebrow. For some odd reason, she did like the idea that he cared and didn’t want other guys ogling her… she wanted him to be jealous... no….no. No she didn’t. She didn’t care. She was just surprised that he’d cared enough to comment on her clothing. Liv had always been slim and had a perky rear end and she had always been more than comfortable in her body; hell, she liked to show it off and get attention. Though something told her that he was right about the guys, not that she would admit it out loud to him anyway. ”Whatever,” With a roll of her eyes, she let the conversation drift to an end. This was going to be a bicker free night, and this was a topic they were probably never going to completely agree on. ”So you admit it… you were checking me out!”
”You assume you know how to make all girls happy. It takes more than a soppy chick flick to make me happy,” Now, a new pair of shoes or a purse? That was a different story… Livy had noticed over the few encounters that she and Seta had that he spoke highly of his sister; it would probably surprise him to know how much that impressed Liv. Her and Rubie of course had that invisible bond that not many people understood; ordinary siblings couldn’t generally understand why the girls were so close… because after all they were in fact two separate people. But something told the blonde that Seta would understand because he appeared to have a similar connection with Midori and that was refreshing. Liv grinned at the mention of the stuffed teddy octopus and Carnie the fish. ”They’re both fine, my sister bought a plastic pineapple for Carnie’s bowl so he’s channelling his inner Spongebob right now,” she laughed. Her mom had had a fit when she’d turned up home with a goldfish; and definitely had to pop a few xanex after realising that Liv had turned one of her designer clear crystal fishbowl candle holders into an actual fishbowl.
Liv definitely didn’t believe him when he insisted that he was on his best behaviour and wasn’t going to be spilling anything – especially after his sarcastic comment which earned him a narrowing of her eyes. ”Be careful, if you didn’t like the way guys were looking at me in my jeans and top, you sure as hell wont like the way they look at me when I have to walk through the lobby in nothing but my underwear,” As Seta ordered, Liv busied herself looking at all of the delicious snacks on display. Ooh Twizzlers. She loved Twizzlers. But before she had time to request a pack, her attention was averted to her boyfriend. Oops. ”Colton, hi! What are you doing here!?” she asked, trying to keep her voice calm but she had a feeling it came out more of a high pitched squeak. ”I came back early to surprise you… clearly you weren’t expecting me.” Colton spoke, his voice low and clearly pissed. ”Oh… uh… I’m just here with a friend, you remember Seta from the Regatta right?” Liv couldn’t actually remember if Colton had actually met Seta at the Regatta or if he’d just heard the story after she’d gotten into trouble for the whole taking the yacht out.
Seta’s jacket now felt like it weight three hundred pounds on her tiny shoulders, but rather than wanting to shrug it off, she wanted to curl up and hide in it. She felt his approach before she saw Seta. The blonde shook her head at the offer of popcorn, her eyes glancing between her boyfriend and her date. This was bad. Colton was taller, but Seta could definitely hold his own more than Colton could. The tension between the trio was palpable; even passerby’s were intrigued as to what was going to happen next. Colton narrowed his eyes at Seta, ”Can’t say I do remember Seta no,” he spat ”Didn’t think they let riff raff into the Regatta.” As Seta spoke, Colton could feel the anger rising in his chest. Did he think he was stupid enough to believe that this was just two friends hanging out? ”Dude, stay out of this. This is between me and my girlfriend.” He turned back to Liv ”Take off that tatty jacket and lets go. Now.” Liv didn’t move.

eta just chuckled at her theatrics, his head shaking lightly in disbelief. “So you’re saying I clash all the time with my clothes because I dye my hair weird colors? Here I had no idea.” Truthfully, he couldn’t care less about any kind of relationship between his chosen clothing for the day and his current hair color. Who cared, really, apart from Olivia Hayni? Probably no one. Yet the fact she let up a little about possibly doing the ends made him grin. “There’s that sense of adventure. You want it done, just say the word. I’ll totally do it, and I’m probably a hell of a lot cheaper than an actual hairdresser.” Okay, so he had Midori’s help, and she had a few cosmetology classes she’d taken when she’d needed more credits for school for experience. It worked. Sort of. If they ever truly screwed it up, he’d just dye it black, or the dark brown it naturally was. As she mentioned the brush, he smirked. “Oh baby, you don’t know the half of how good I can clean up when I put my mind to it.” The Regatta had been forced, admittedly, and therefore he didn’t count it. Left to his own devices? He could clean up quite nicely, thank you very much. Her challenge gave him pause for a moment. Why did he care, exactly? Liv drove him nuts, so why should he give a rat’s behind if she was getting stared at? Yet he did care. Not in an incredibly involved way, but rather just in a way that he didn’t like it when any guy made faces like that. It wasn’t right. He shrugged, jamming his hands in his pockets. “I’d do it for any girl. You, my sister, a stranger. You’re people, not pieces of meat.” That was his story and he was sticking to it. Yet when she rounded on him, he had to admit… he’d walked right into that one. Whoops. Shrugging again, he peeked sideway at her. “I do have eyes, and I’m not blind. But at least it was less predatory and more… appreciative?” Yes, by modern standards Olivia was pretty. Not his type, but pretty. “Hey now! I didn’t say that’s all it takes to make a girl happy. It just helps. Unless they’re badass and like horror flicks.” Still, he was curious now. “What makes you happy, then? Apart from carnival fish.” He’d seen the way she’d lit up when he’d given her the little orange fish, and he suspected that she’d liked it more than she’d let on. But what else made Olivia Hayni tick? … Apart from fashion. That, he’d never understand. At least she seemed to be taking good care of him. “Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Carnie Hayni!” Was it stupid to not only sing the Spongebob theme in the middle of the theatre lobby, but change up the lyrics? Probably. But Seta had long since given up caring what people thought about him. Mostly, anyway. Having nasty, and mostly untrue rumors spread about you in high school tended to help with that. “I like his name. He’s probably liking living it up like a royal.” As long as he was being looked after, he was content with his decision to gift the fish over. Livy was feisty tonight. Oddly, Seta didn’t mind that fact. She was a pain in the ass, sure, but the feisty edge she carried with her was fun to spar with. Much more fun than a simple high society girl with zero opinions of her own, and always seeking permission before doing literally anything. “Psh, like I’d let that happen. I’d be the one streaking if that was the case. I’d give you the shirt off my back before it got to that. On you it’d probably be like a dress anyway.” See? He could be very well mannered when given the chance. Those manners were very quickly going to be tossed to the wayside. A smooth smirk appeared on his face at the riff raff comment. He’d been called much worse, and coming from Dopey? It was almost laughable. “Of course they let the riff raff in. Who else could make the socialites look better by comparison?” He wasn’t going to let it get to him, because this wasn’t really about him. As much as he liked to knock Colton, he was starting to see a new reason to dislike him. The tone he was taking with Liv was making him highly doubt that any resolution ending with her leaving with him would be good. He’d heard that kind of tone before in guys, and things never ended well. Shifting slightly, he moved so that he was more or less between Colton and Liv. “Don’t ‘dude’ me, Kid. And you need to take your tone down a notch with her. She already told you, we’re friends and we’re seeing a movie. You wouldn’t throw a tantrum over her going with a girlfriend, would you?” His expression was smug, but inside he felt himself coiling tightly, ready to strike if he needed to. He didn’t fully trust Colton at the best of times, and with the pissy fit he was throwing right now, he had less reason to trust him. “Go home and cool the hell down. I’m only telling you once.” It was weird feeling like the adult in any situation, but he was older than Colton, and probably stronger. At the very least, he was scrappier. He’d been in plenty of fights before, and if it came to that, he was confident on which horse to bet on. ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this? Basically, yeah.” Livy replies as a matter of fact, her lips twitching with the hint of a small smile. She was highly aware that not everyone shared her interest or commitment to fashion; not even her sister shared her love of all things fashion. So she wasn’t exactly surprised that he wasn’t at all interested and made a joke of it. ”I mean, unless you wear black all the time – because you know, black goes with everything…” and now she was rambling about fashion, and acutely aware that he probably thought she was special in a retarded way. Not that she really cared what he thought of her anyway… right? Livy laughed out loud at his offer and rolled her eyes at him dramatically. ”As sweet as that offer is, I think I’d rather pay a few more dollars and have a professional do it.” It wasn’t as if she would pay for it herself anyway, that was a perk of having access to daddy’s Amex card. He mom would actually flip on her though if she went home with even pink dip dyed hair. Hmm… maybe it would be worth it, just for that – hair grows back after all. ”If you’re going to make claims like that, you’re going to have to prove it.” She thought back to how he appeared at the Regatta. While he had scrubbed up pretty nicely there, it had been obvious that it had been reluctantly and he hadn’t exactly felt comfortable.
She wasn’t buying his heroic, women aren’t pieces of meat to be ogled at act one little bit, because while she may have a little bit of skin on show, she was sure that there were many other women in this movie theatre alone who were wearing less than her, but he didn’t exactly seem to be offering them his coat… just her. ”Me think the gentleman doth protests too much,” Liv challenged again, with a raise of her eyebrow and a smirk. ”Ha, oh please drop this holier than thou crap. Making out that only you appreciate women when ogling them and all other males are being predators. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with looking anyway. Livy couldn’t help but wonder if he really felt this way about how guys looked at women, or if he was simply just trying to impress her.
”The only times horror films are acceptable is when you can use them as an excuse to cosy up to someone for the scary parts,” that had been the original plan the last time she and Colton had gone to the movies, until this idiot had barged into her life and thrown things into chaos. A smile spread across her face at the mention of the fish. She had never been a girl who considered fish to be worthwhile pets before she had received this one at the carnival, and if Liv was being completely honest, she wasn’t completely sure why this one meant so much to her. If was just a fish after all; a little dull goldfish that swam around in circles all day. But despite this, the blonde found herself looking after it. ”Well… carnival fish only make the coolest girls happy,” she said with a smirk, ”I can’t really tell you what makes up happy. It’s part of girl code. Never tell guys what we want, make them figure it out… and get really, really, really made when they don’t get it right.”. Livy laughed hard when Seta began to sing Spongebob, and almost choked when he changed the lyrics. He was a bigger dork that she’d first realised. ”Oh man I wish I had recorded you singing that,”. As her laugh faded, the smile stayed firmly on her face as she nodded in confirmation that Carnie was in fact living life like a royal goldfish. For some bizarre reason, she felt a weight lift off of her shoulders when he said that he liked the name she’d chosen. Like it mattered.
”Oh well aren’t you just Seattle’s answer to Clark Kent,” Liv replied, a little sarcastic but only to mask her amazement that he’d even admitted that he’d give her the shirt off of his back before he’d let her walk through the movie theatre with nothing on. No one had ever said anything that sweet before. Blush coloured her cheeks, and her tummy fluttered slightly as she focused her eyes on her companion for way longer than necessary.
The fluttering quickly turned into a queasy feeling at the sight of her boyfriend standing in front of her. Why did she feel guilty… this wasn’t technically a date, it was just two friends hanging out… wasn’t it? She didn’t even fancy Seta and he certainly didn’t fancy her… they barely tolerated each other. ”Colton, be nice” she scolded at his comment about Seta being riff raff. ”Seta’s mom and my mom are friends,” Friends may be a little bit of a stretch, because her mom didn’t really have friends, she had people she competed against to play “who has the best life”. Colton scowled at Seta’s reply; and he completed ignored Livy’s warning and statement. He didn’t give a crap who knew who. ”Well I’ll definitely be ensuring that security is tighter next year. After all, the first time you attend was the first time that my girlfriend stole a yacht.” Colton viewed this guy as nothing but a waste of time who was nothing but a bad influence.
Liv wasn’t scared of Colton. He may sound angry, but he’d never hurt her – physically or emotionally… and she knew that. But she knew that others may believe otherwise. In attempt to defuse to situation a little, the blonde shrugged off Seta’s jack, offering it back to him forgetting that his hand were actually full with the popcorn and sodas. ”Colton, calm down. You’re making a mountain out of a mole hill, – “ she muttered sarcastically. But before she could continue, Seta had basically positioned himself between her and Colton. ”None of her girlfriends have a bad reputation about town.” Colton snapped, now even more pissed off that this dick had separated him from Liv. Who did he think he was? ”Only telling me once?” Colton snorted, ”I’m not leaving here without Olivia, or maybe I should go pick your sister up and bring her to the movies… just as friends though right? Because you know, you wouldn’t cause a fuss over her hanging out with a girlfriend.” Colton was smug, as he spat back Seta’s own words at him.
