is this a heartbeat or an attempt to escape a body that does not feel like my own? | God, it stank. Leah swore it was actually hurting her nose, the heavy and heady scent of vampire, something so viciously sweet it made her stomach turn. Full offense to Jake, how could he freaking stand it? Renesmee smelled tolerable at best, and though Leah knew the whole imprint thing played a part in Jake being able to stand it, she was still quite critical. If her imprint were a half-vampire demon monster, she'd waste zero time informing her that yes, she loved her unconditionally, but also she smelled like she showered every day in liquid sugar or something. But then again, she supposed Jacob already had practice. Bella had to have reeked of vampire back when he'd still been hopelessly in love with her. Leah slowed as the stench of it became more powerful, the nearer she came to the Cullen property. She tried to stay as far away from the house as possible most days, but her patrols urged her to push her anti-vampire limit. She wouldn't bother if Jake weren't with Renesmee all the time, but seeing as he was with her right now, she forced herself to swallow the scent and move as close as she dared. Involuntarily, the fur along her neck and spine began to bristle as she caught sight of the ridiculous Cullen place. She'd been raised in a house that was small, a 'fixer-upper' as people that had time liked to call it, and would hardly be suitable for a decently well-off couple, let alone two werewolf kids and their mother. It wasn't just her disgust of vampires that made her find the Cullen home distasteful. That was it. She physically couldn't stand the smell anymore and Leah was mostly finished with her patrol anyway. It was a bit easier to tolerate when she was human so she began to breathe slowly, concentrating on the gradual shift from wolf to her usual human body, and when the heat of the transformation melted away into the subtle coolness of a lack of fur, she opened her eyes again. Human, and naked. She couldn't bring herself to care much about people finding her bare skinned any longer, all privacy had been lost the moment she'd exploded into a wolf for the first time. Picking up the little big tied around her ankle, she pulled out her strategically folded clothes and in less than a minute she was dressed in her tattered shorts and tank. What she wouldn't give to be one of the boys, only having to carry around a pair of shorts. Scoffing to herself, Leah brushed herself free of twigs and leaves, shaking out her short bob cut. The smell really was better like this. She was just debating whether or not to pop in on Jacob and his future in-laws simply to drop a few savage remarks, when she heard a swish in the air, and the wind changed just enough so she could catch the scent of some vampire approaching. Already, everything in her was heating up, instinct begging her to shift back into a wolf to protect herself, but no one on the Cullen territory would harm her. She could grudgingly admit that. "Lurking is creepy," she noted to the open air, knowing the vampire would be able to hear her wherever they were. |
