IF YOU'RE GONNA HIT ME, HIT ME HARDER
cause you better knock me out the first time, if you're gonna hit me, hit me harder than this | P arties had never been Edward kind of thing. He couldn’t really understand why people celebrated their birthday; being born was inevitable. It wasn’t like you had a choice about it. It baffled him that so many humans’ thoughts revolved around hating the idea of getting old and dying, yet they enjoyed and were eager to celebrate becoming another year older. The only people Edward wanted to celebrate being born were Bella and Renesmee, and he’d been doing that from the moment they both arrived in his life. Ever since that fateful birthday party that had lead to Edward forcing the Cullen’s to leave Forks in attempt to keep Bella safe from his world, he had tried to avoid them; their wedding party being an exception… although there had been an incident there too – Jake had lost his cool when he’d found out the newly married couple intended on having a human honeymoon. So it was safe to say that they didn’t have the best track record.
The last birthday that Edward had celebrated had been his seventeenth. He’d received a golden pocket watch off of his mother and father with ’Edward, time is on your side’ engraved carefully on the back. Edward Sr. and Elizabeth had given it to him as they ate the birthday cake that Elizabeth had spent all day baking. That was all he really remembered now, his human memories becoming fuzzier as time went on. He still had that pocket watch though, stashed away in its box in his chest of draws. Since being changed however, Edward hadn’t wanted to celebrate his human birthday. It wasn’t necessary; the human had died the day Edward had woken as a vampire. In his opinion there was no need to celebrate his aging when he was forever frozen at seventeen.
According to the calendar that was hung in the kitchen of the Cullen’s main kitchen, today was the first day of spring; and rumour had it that March 21st was a certain little pixie’s birthday; that said pixie being Alice Cullen of course. Alice was Edward’s favourite little sister, although he’d probably never admit that out loud to anyone, ever. Ever since she’d shown up at their house, taking his bedroom as her own and moving all of his things into the garage, he’d had quite a soft spot for her. She had definitely slipped into the annoying little sister role with ease, that’s for sure. Out of all of the Cullen’s, Alice was the one that Edward was closest too. The fact that they both had extra special gifts had bonded them with an invisible chord.
It was mid morning when Edward made his way from the small little cottage nestled in the woods to the main Cullen house. While he may not be a birthday party kind of guy, he knew that it was right up Alice’s street and he knew that it wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary for there to be some form of party. Dressed in a light blue three quarter sleeve shirt and navy chino’s, he headlined into the large living room in search of his family. ”Hey, anyone here?” ooc;this isn't the greatest post, but it's a starting point. hope it's okay.

| T he idea of birthdays made Bella tense up. Thankfully she wouldn’t have to deal with being the centre of attention! When she had been human Alice has been determined to kill her via parties…her birthday stuck in her mind as one of the most poignant moments in her human life. And not for a good reason. She felt something stick in her throat at the memory, before shoving it to one side. It amazed her to this day the affect that night and the aftermath had on her. She was immortal now but still, some things just never disappear all that easily. Recently, the family had only really taken to celebrating Renesmee’s birthdays. As much as it had been the best day of her life, it was an experience she’d not been keen to remember. The intense pain of the venom pumping around her body had meant Bella was out of it for three days after the birth of her beautiful daughter. It had led her to have an amazing life with her family…but like most vampires she tried to forget the pain that it had caused. Birthdays…who needed them? Clearly they were just trouble. Well, at least they were in Bella’s experience. But today was different, today was for Alice. Alice was like a sister to her in every way. Although they had extremely different interests, Bella adored Alice and would often do whatever it took to make her happy. Today was the day Alice had chosen as her birthday, it had been fitting…the first day of Spring. Alice had lost all her human memories when she’d become a vampire, adapting to her new way of life with very little idea as to what had happened to her. This had given her the opportunity to create a birthday and it had been one Bella had never forgotten. A present sat wrapped in the wardrobe, she’d made Jake go out and buy it so that Alice wouldn’t see what it was…surprises were always hard when it came to a vampire who saw everything. Leaving it in place, she made a mental note to ask Jake to bring it to the main house for her later on that day. Pulling her hair into a messy ponytail, Bella made her way from the cottage and over to the main house. It was fresh out, though the grey clouds loomed over Forks as usual. Years ago, Bella would have told you how much she hated Forks, the rain…the cold…none of it had appealed to her at all. Now, she couldn’t ever imagine leaving the small town. It had been the place where Edward had come into her life, and meant more to her than anywhere in the world. Charlie had always been confused by her change in attitude but, as she made her way through the forest and took in all its beauty, it made her wonder how she’d ever disliked it. Climbing the stairs that led to the front door of the Cullens, Bella caught the trace of a familiar scent and a smile spread across her face. Edward. She felt a wave of excitement bubble over her, even just the idea of seeing him turned Bella into a giddy mess. She opened the front door and wandered in, taking the stairs up to the living area. “Edward…” she beamed, heading over to where he stood. He seemed to be lost in some kind of thought, “is anyone else around?” She glanced around the room, it didn’t look like anyone else was in. “You know, it’s Alice’s birthday today… she whispered, looking up at Edward and grinning. As Bella got closer to her husband she wrapped her arms around his waist. |

▼ THE HYBRID Daughter A small breeze came floating through the window and gently blew at the lump lying on the bed. Her hair picked up slightly tickling at her face earning a small groan from the young hybrid. She was a hybrid which meant she did something the rest of her family didn’t… she slept. Most of the time she hated sleeping, she hated to miss out on anything and felt as though the time she spent sleeping could be spent doing a many of other things. Over the last couple of weeks though she was beginning to like to sleep in more and more, perhaps it was that she was physically and mentally starting to mature as a teenager. Most teenagers liked to spend their time sleeping and Nessie wasn’t much different from them. Her nose wrinkled as the breeze caused her hair to once again tickle her skin causing her eyes to finally flutter open. A yawn escaped her as she looked around her room, there wasn’t really any sun shining but she lived in Forks the sun didn’t shine all that much. The sun not shining was one of the main reasons that her family lived her; it was easier to keep their secret in dark places.
Her soft eyes drifted over to the kitten calendar hanging on her wall and a small smile formed on her lips. Today was circled with a million hearts around it the words were written in her quirky Aunt’s handwriting. Aunt Alice’s Birthday she thought to herself as she pushed herself out of bed. She loved spending time with Alice; she took after her Aunt a lot when it came to shopping. Nessie loved to shop and that just wasn’t something her mother enjoyed so she usually went shopping with Alice. Her cloths were almost always new and almost always in some sort of fashion. She almost danced over to the closet as she threw it open and looked through for an outfit to wear. Her eyes scanned the cloths hanging gently on hangers a passing thought about perhaps she had a bit too many cloths floated across her mind but she quickly squashed that thought down. She didn’t have too many cloths a giggled escaped her at even the thought of entertaining that idea.
“Yes you!” She said as she grabbed a simple white laced dress. It looked good and was modest enough for her father. It was perfect. With a small smile plastered on her lips she quickly slipped off her pajamas and pulled the dress on. She made her way over to the mirror in her room and quickly applied a small amount of makeup and a light layer of pink lipstick. Sometimes she liked to wear more make up but today was just a family affair so she had settled on a simple look. Tilting her head to the side a small sigh escaped her as she looked at her reflection, to the untrained eye she looked like every other seventeen year old girl. She wasn’t of course, she was a hybrid which means she was only part human. She wasn’t even seventeen years old technically… technically she would be about two years old.
”Shoes” She said out loud, there wasn’t anyone to say it to but she tended to talk out loud even if she was the only person in the entire. Twirling away from the mirror she kneeled down and shoved her arm under her bed “I know you’re under here somewhere” she had a specific pair in a mind a pair of pink heels that she hadn’t worn all that many times. Her fingers found three other pair of shoes before she found the ones she wanted. When the teen finally grabbed the pair she wanted she let out a small squeal as she pulled them on her feet and jumped back up and exited her room.
Nessie could already tell her parents had already left the cottage so she went to the kitchen table and grabbed the gift she had wrapped last night. Inside the carefully wrapped box there was a small locket; Nessie hadn’t put a picture in it because she wasn’t sure whose picture her Aunt would want in it. She had a feeling it would be her Uncle’s picture but she figured her Aunt could make the final decision. With a skip in her step she left the cottage and made her way to the main house. It didn’t take her long before she was pushing open the front door and her eyes fell on her parents. With a playful roll of her eyes she let out a small noise “Hi mom…Hi dad”. She knew her parents loved each other and often showed it but they were still her parents after all.

Alice was so excited, she felt she might just fly away, like the pixie people were always saying she looked like. Normally, Alice was naturally excitable, but today was a completely different and abnormally exhilarating day. The first day of spring..and the day Alice had chosen for her birthday. Though she didn't remember her human birthday, anyone who knew Alice would know that any opportunity to throw a party was welcome. Though she usually went a bit overboard with decorations (tastefully, however), Alice had decided on a theme for this particular occasion. Fresh flowers of an astounding variety were in vases around the family room, and three tables had been set up in the center of the room, covered with a crystal and china tea set, complete with little cakes that said 'Eat Me', and little bottled juices that were labeled with tags that said 'Drink Me'.
Though Esme had effectively banished the effervescent from the party room, Alice knew she could trust Esme to get the setup, and she had tried not to peek at the results beforehand. She truly wanted to be surprised, and sometimes it was hard to be surprised when her head filled with visions. But she was getting better at shutting out some things, so it kept things quieter in her head and a bit less stressful. In fact, she had found with the coming of Spring, so too came new visions, new hopes, new dreams. She treasured these, and the hope she saw in those around her, both the humans and her family, Alice felt an echoing hope inside her. Maybe this would be a peaceful season.. Maybe there would be true quiet from the threats she had been keeping an eye on. Hearing voices downstairs, Alice knew family was starting to gather. Shaking away the heavy thoughts, Alice took a last look at her reflection in the floor-length mirror, and bounced on her toes in renewed excitement. In a gown that was blue, ankle-length and flowy, Alice had taken a page from one of her favorite stories and dressed as Alice Kingsleigh from the filming-in-progress Alice in Wonderland movie. Having seen the costume designs and the promotional imagery, Alice had taken an instant liking to the iconic blue dress of the live-action film. It had inspired her rabbit-shaped mother-of-pearl bracelet.
Sensing Bella, Edward, and her beloved niece Reneesme's presences, Alice skipped from the room and down the stairs, beaming at her family before hugging each of them in turn, excited to share this special day with them.

| Believe in Your Dreams
they can come true
--♦♦♦-- Esme smiled happily as she gazed around the party room. It really was Wonderland. There were tables with brightly-colored tablecloths draped over them, and then covered with an assortment of teapots, teacups and saucers. Sugar bowls and cream pitchers sat waiting. Tiny pastries and sandwiches, flaky scones and little tea cakes covered silver trays alongside glass jars and dishes of jams and jellies. Besides a wide selection of teas, there were also cordials and juices. Esme turned her gaze towards the ceiling, where dozens of multi-colored lanterns gave the room a cheery appearance. Cards were threaded on string and hung among the lanterns, turning gently in the air. Esme had gotten her children to help make figures of the Cheshire Cat and Absolem, and those were in special places in the room. Esme grinned as she studied the giant mushrooms appearing to grow up from the floor, towering over the party room. It really was all quite impressive. She hoped Alice would love it, and had taken great care to keep it a surprise.
She turned towards the door, hearing her dress rustle softly as she moved. She had decided to dress as the White Queen, and was quite excited to show Alice. Esme smiled once more and decided it was about time to let everyone into the room.

IF YOU'RE GONNA HIT ME, HIT ME HARDER
cause you better knock me out the first time, if you're gonna hit me, hit me harder than this | E dward wrapped his arm around Bella’s waist, pulling her into him; whenever they back together after spending anytime apart, it was as if he’d found a piece of himself that he hadn’t even realized had been missing. ”Bella,” he murmured, dropping a light kiss to her lips. Looking back, he had no idea how he had managed to control himself around her for so long when she had been human. Even with gestures such as wrapping her up in his arms and holding her against him, if he hadn’t been extremely cautious he could have easily crushed her. But now, he could relax with her, she was in every way his equal. He nodded his head curtly at Bella’s question. In another room of the house he could hear Esme’s thought’s flittering about various decorations. ”Esme’s here, putting out the final touches to the party,” He rolled his eyes as he spoke and her thoughts danced through his own mind. His adoptive mother was almost, almost, as bad as Alice when it came to parties... ”I’d heard a few walls talking the other day that suggested it was her birthday,” he chuckled.
A moment later, Renesmee joined them, causing Edward’s golden gaze to move from his wife to his daughter; it struck him every time he saw her how much she looked like Bella. The situation their family had experienced since they found out they were expecting her had been anything but ordinary; but since things had calmed down, Edward had been working hard to try and provide a normal family environment for them all. As a result, he had effectively taken on the role of an over protective father. Usually, a father had years of prepping time before their child hit the teenage years and began dating and expressing themselves via fashion and other such things; but of course things had been sped up slightly in these circumstances. Edward’s smiled warmly at his daughter, ”Hello Renesmee.” He was glad to see that her attire was appropriate today; teenagers these days tended not to wear enough clothing for his liking and he didn’t want his daughter flashing her body to anyone; even if it was just the family and the pack. Although, he was going to have to address the whole wearing make-up thing; she may look physically seventeen, but technically she was only two!
He didn’t have time to bring it up though before Alice bounced into room. ”Alice, you do realise we come over most days, you act as if we haven’t seen each other in months and we never visit,” he said, dryly with a shake of his head. ”Happy Birthday,” Edward had never been one for buying presents, he was never sure of what to buy, the only people he’d ever been inspired to buy for was his wife and daughter. The last thing Edward had bought for Alice, she had told him out right that she wanted a Porsche 911 turbo; and he admittedly owed her his life after she brought Bella to him in Italy.
Esme’s voice drew his attention away from the three women. He could tell that she had been working hard to try and keep the final layout of the room a secret, her thoughts still jumping from thing to thing quickly. The Cullen’s had learnt many years ago that it was almost pointless to keep secrets in the family; what with a mind reader and a psychic, things always felt through the gaps eventually. Edward hadn't been directly told that there was a party today, but whenever there was an excuse to decorate and have some form of get together, Alice and Esme were all over it. While a party may not be Edward’s cup of tea, he could tell that Alice was already excited to have the family together to share her day with, and he didn’t want to disappoint her. ”After you ladies,” he gestured in front of him, motioning for them to on ahead.

| B ella let out a quiet breath that she hadn’t realised she’d been holding. It was nice to be near Edward again, she felt herself relax and relished in the light kiss he’d placed on her lips. It tingled, that slight electric feeling she loved to feel when they touched. “At least it’ll look better than if I had planned it,” Bella laughed, she wasn’t the best when it came to parties, every single one of hers she had thought over the top - Alice and Esme, you couldn’t rein either of them in. “Those walls are talkative, aren’t they?” Bella raised one eyebrow slightly at him, it wasn’t his fault he could hear what everyone was thinking…well, apart from her. Still, she was sure he used it fully to his advantage. The appearance of their daughter made Bella bite her lip, acting like a naughty child who’d been caught in the act. It still made her head swim, their daughter looked the same age as them, but deep down she was still their baby - no matter how much she hated it. “Renesmee, you look pretty,” she smiled at her daughter - approving of her outfit choice. At least it meant Edward wouldn’t feel the need to go into over-protective father mode. It wasn’t exactly ideal that they had a daughter who looked and acted like any normal seventeen year old. Neither of them had adjusted to life with a child, let alone one who grew so rapidly. But, they’d had no choice - and despite the way things had occured, Bella wouldn’t give up the life she had for anything. “Alice! Happy Birthday!” Bella gave Edward a look, shaking her head at his comment and letting him go in order to wrap her arms tightly around the birthday girl. “Your present will be arriving later,” she stood back and grinned. Alice wouldn’t see what was coming, Bella had meticulously planned her present using the gaps in her sisters vision. Tricky, but it could be done. Surprising Alice took planning, and lots of it. Though it helped when your best friend happened to be a werewolf - one creature Alice couldn’t see the path of. It was payback for the surprises Alice had thrown at her over the years - particularly the surprise birthday party that Bella constantly tried to forget. Esme pulled Bella’s attention back into the room, she glanced over to where the voice had come from before looking back at Alice. “Come on, it’s your day…” She gave Edward a ’behave’ look, sensing he wasn’t quite into this whole birthday party thing. He’d never wanted to celebrate his own, at least not in the same way Alice was. Vampires didn’t age, so most of the time there was no point, but Alice was Alice - she loved any excuse to throw a party. Allowing Alice to lead the way, Bella placed an arm around her daughter and squeezed her softly. No one could wish for a better family. |

big bad monkey man
Emmett was late. It hadn't been intentional. He had been out shopping for a gift last minute for Alice. It had, on its own, taken some time. It was the classic question of what do you get a person who has everything? There was nothing that Alice could not buy for herself but everyone liked getting gifts.
So it had taken him lot of time to find something he deemed to be near to perfect. Admittedly, he had gotten distracted in the electronic store more than he cared to admit.
Eventually Emmett had made his decision. A tan Kate Spade purse and inside was an additional surprise of a necklace/earring sapphire white gold set. Nice. Something attractive that he hoped Alice would like to use. He had bought it all in Seattle and then headed back. Normally the drive would have been hours but the way Emmett drove the jeep wrangler, he made it in less than half the time.
Bounding up the front steps of the house, Emmett let himself in. The scent of his family told him where they all were. Emmett stepped into the room and winking at Renesmee , he spoke up. "Sorry I'm late."
He took in the decorations as he moved to Esme to give her a quick peck on the cheek. He looked down at her clothes. "You look pretty." He told her. "Interesting choice." Emmett moved to Alice next. "Happy Birthday, little sis." A soft one armed hug was given and he handed her the gifts which had been prettied up by mall customer service desk in a pink sparkly gift bag and tissue paper. Emmett didn't care if this was not Alice's real birthday. If it made her happy, he was glad to go along with the celebration.
He moved off to stand with Edward. tag: love words: 304 outfit: click! notes: xxx

| Believe in Your Dreams they can come true --♦♦♦-- Esme smiled, standing in the living room and watching her family fondly. She could never have imagined that she would have such a wonderful life, with such a wonderful family. Every day they reminded her how grateful she was to have them in her life. And no one could ever be as blessed as she had been. She was glad they could all be here, especially since it was in honor of Alice. Carlisle, Esme thought. You have given me so much.
She nodded and smiled at Edward, thankful that he had kept everything a secret. He had been her first "child" after the loss of her own baby, and she had a special place in her heart for him. "I truly appreciate it, Edward."She smiled at Bella, as always glad that Edward had found his true love and brought such a wonderful person into the family. "Hello, dear. It's always good to see you!" She waved at her granddaughter Renesmee, hoping for a hug from her. She dearly loved her granddaughter, someone she had barely dared to hope for. She admired the way Renesmee was dressed."Hello, sweetheart! You look wonderful!" Esme grinned as Emmett kissed her cheek, reaching up to ruffle his hair fondly. "Hi, Emmett! I hope you're doing well." She smiled at Alice, so excited to celebrate this day with her. She placed a small silver box on the table already piled with presents. She hoped Alice would like the gift. Birthdays were something special, even if they didn't really apply anymore.
"I'm so glad that everyone's here! I hope you're all ready for a fantastic party! There are costumes if anyone else would like to put one on."
She hugged Alice, feeling happy. "Happy Birthday, my dear." Truly, she had been given a marvelous gift when Carlisle had given her a second chance at life, and she was never going to stop being thankful.
