personality Starting with his positive traits, Tudor is perhaps most defined by his breathtaking loyalty. There is nothing he wouldn't do for family, for friends, he'll take flying leaps out of his comfort zone for them. Because of this, he's protective. Unlike maybe most vampires, Tudor found himself entirely unable to abandon his human life, and stuck stubbornly with his family since he was turned. He has stayed with generations of his family over the course of centuries now, and is endlessly protective of them. Because of this, he feels a strong sense of responsibility toward them... it's his love for his family and all that he's lost over the years that makes him so willing to shoulder great responsibility. For a long time, Tudor has learned to rely more on intuition than cold, hard facts, despite also being an analytical person. He lives in a world of vampires, sometimes with various abilities, and shifters and werewolves - he's learned that he can't dissect everything in front of him, and gut instinct can be the best way to go. He's intelligent in this way, and it's not something that he started with; when you're born a slave boy, you simply don't have the resources you need to be a genius from the start. He learned to become more perceptive after he became a vampire, and a quick learner as well. He's sharp and observant, but also has a layer of cunningness that can throw people off. He knows he needs to be meticulous in his work, pay attention to detail, and he's careful to cover his tracks so nobody will discover what he is. Because of these things, he's ridiculously hard-working. He's spent most of his life throwing himself into his work and research, into helping people as best he can. Another trait that's developed over the years has been his bravery. He had to learn to become brave after turning into a vampire, and something he's learned is that bravery is never without fear: he's brave because he's afraid his family and friends will get hurt if he isn't. Moving on, Tudor is a really good-humored person for how old he is. He's the kind of person that adjusts smoothly to the times, so he's been good at picking up on 'what's in with the kids.' He comes across as very snarky and sassy, as well as playful and teasing. As a result of his willingness to adjust to never growing older while the world moves on, Tudor has had to learn to become a more tolerant person. He was born in the late 1700s and of course, America was a far different place back then. He's witnessed civil rights movements, that of black rights, womens rights, gay rights, and immigrants' rights. Having seen evidence of why the world needs tolerance, Tudor is a strong advocate of most civil rights. Onto his less savory aspects, Tudor has proven to be an incredibly resentful person. He holds grudges, and because he's a vampire, he can and will hold those grudges forever. He has an unforgiving attitude toward those that betray his trust, and isn't a fan of second chances. Because of this, he's a very bitter type of person. He's been around a long time and has suffered a lot, and like a lot of vampires, believes his existence is quite like a curse sometimes. While Tudor has confidence in a good way and it's made him flourish from how frightened he used to be at the beginning of his story, it's also allowed him to have a more arrogant nature too. He can come off like he thinks highly of himself, talented, and cocky and it's probably incredibly annoying. He seeks to be in control of things and have dominance over others because he thinks he knows better, and leading into that, it makes him quite patronizing. He's not afraid to belittle or toy with people's feelings when he's feeling bitter and angry. He's also got a habit of lying, something he's picked up frankly, since he's risen from the dead, a requirement of being a vampire really. On his more hidden side, Tudor is naturally, very secretive and a bit distrustful as well as moody. He's a surprisingly emotional person, prone to mood swings and his family have described him as unpredictable because of it. He can't help it though, he's pessimistic, after all the crap he's been through he sees the glass half empty in nearly every situation, which is only a perk when things turn out alright, because that means he gets to be pleasantly surprised. However, it does make it difficult to make stable relationships because he pretty much expects them to end. Finally, despite his loyal and brave front, to the core Tudor is quite selfish. He cares deeply for things that are his and holds them to himself, he'd choose his family, his friends, in a heartbeat over strangers. Often he cares only for how things affect him alone, but he is for the most part, oddly altruistic. Lastly, Tudor does have a 'vampiric ability,' though he hasn't realized it's like that, which is understandable given its nature. His power is self-control over his bloodlust. It doesn't stop him from feeling the pain that the scent of blood causes all vampires, nor does it stop him from wanting it so badly it hurts. But there's a part of him that, when he connects with it, he has such a firm grasp of his control that it's the sole reason he's been able to become a doctor. He doesn't realize it's not like this for other vampires, so he doesn't understand why newborn vampires so easily snap... when he, as a newborn, was able to force himself not to hurt his family. It's likely his ability was born out of that very trait - loyalty to his family, and his determination not to hurt them, and instead to help them. BIOGRAPHY Tudor's story is, as he sourly sums up, 'a goddamn sob story.' He was born in 1761, the bastard son of a white landowner in Virginia and a black slave. Indeed, he was around for the American Revolutionary War and it defined his entire childhood. His mother, and his half siblings, all were sold off to a different plantation so the drama and the scandal of his mother's relationship with their landowner wouldn't be revealed. There, Tudor lived most of his life. As a bastard, it was expected for him to receive a lot of ridicule and he certainly did. Though he was loved by his mother and half brothers, other slaves on their plantation were skeptical. Tudor looked too white to pass as family of the black slaves, and too dark to pass as family of the new plantation owners. He was an inbetween, an anomoly to the others. It only made him closer to his family though. He stuck stubbornly with them, closest to his oldest brother George most of all. As a kid, he made a habit of imitating him, following in his footsteps, and Tudor confided with him more than his mother or his other brother - Elias. It's actually because of George that Tudor is called Tudor at all... when he was just a baby, he couldn't pronounce the Th sound of his full name Theodore, and began calling him Tudor instead, and it's stuck though the name is Romanian. Tudor faced the same discrimination his family did as a family of slaves, and the longing of freedom as the Revolutionary War continued, but he never experienced anything more serious than that; his mother did well in protecting him from further abuse, he was considered lucky really, for a bastard son. His luck took a nasty turn just before he was due to turn 22 years old. He was only getting a breath of fresh air in the middle of the night - and he didn't even see what hit him. But next thing he knew he was on the ground, pain roaring through his neck as he began to transform. It was a deliberate move, little did he know. The transformation process was unbearable. If Tudor weren't such a determined person it's likely he'd have died, but he pulled through after days, and his sire was waiting for him. He was black - like him, like his family - and turned Tudor to help him in his pursuit of forcing the end to slavery after the Battle of Yorktown had just ended the day before. Still winded from his transformation, he rejected the other vampire, and as a newborn it didn't take much effort to force him to leave him. He was horrified at what he'd become though, and frightened at the intensity of the burn he felt. He didn't return to his family for a month, after having killed three innocent people. Crushed with guilt and sickened with himself, Tudor could hardly stand to face them, especially his mother. He wasn't about to hide what he was from them though, and that was probably what saved him. A mother would always love her son, no matter what he'd done, and she proved that. His brothers had more trouble accepting him, Elias perhaps never fully coming to terms with it, while George couldn't help but still love his little brother. The first year was arduous. Tudor had to focus every moment on resisting the burn in his throat, feasting instead on the blood of animals, until his blood red eyes eased slowly to burgundy, and then bronze, and then so close to his previous dark brown it was scary, and finally to gold after two years. His self control was splendid with his bloodlust, especially for a newborn, and it was a mental trick that he thought he'd taught himself. When he experienced bloodlust, he latched onto the thought of his mother, so that every potential victim would be his mother standing before him. It wasn't a trick, it was a rare ability that enabled Tudor to resist bloodlust with ease as the years went on. It would always bother him, but he could always - without fail, without error - hold himself back. Control wasn't so simple in other things, especially strength and speed. For a fair decade, Tudor had incredible difficulty with overestimating the amount of strength required to even open a door, or take a step without breaking a floorboard. He put such a desperate amount of attention on not biting anyone that he didn't put the same focus on not breaking things. Accidental destruction followed in his wake, usually repairable, but not always; he was often guilty of leaving unintended bruises on his family, even spraining wrists at times. After somewhat mastering control of his self control trick with bloodlust, he began to focus more on controlling his strength, and then his walking and running speed. Within a decade he appeared much more human. However, time was running out for him. He would in real time, be thirty now, and his brother George had already gotten married and had a kid (Elias had died of illness before Tudor hit 25). He could no longer pass for the age he was supposed to be, though he did look mature for the age he'd died as. He ran away from his plantation in 1792, following his mother's advice which would take him to the place he was born - the plantation his biological father owned. Introducing himself to Isaac Rosier as what he was - his bastard son - Tudor was surprised to find himself welcome in his household. Though his father was strict about not mentioning the fact he was a slave's bastard, he was welcome to live with him. This would not however, last very long, his lack of aging still being the main problem. He stayed just long enough to take advantage of the opportunities being the son of a rich white plantation owner could offer him. Determined to have further control over his bloodlust and to help people in some manner, Tudor took the advice of one of his half sisters and pursued an interest in a medical education. He passed enough as white, that he wouldn't raise eyebrows, and when he moved upstate to attend the University of Pennsylvania, he took on his father's surname instead. Thus, it would be Theodore Rosier who would later graduate from the university. His course curriculum was far more difficult for him than the other boys. The exams and the lectures weren't the difficult bit, it was the actual practice of it that Tudor understandably struggled with. Bloodlust was the only constant in his life while life passed him by but still, unquestionably, he maintained his self control until by the time he graduated with his medical degree a few years later than the other boys, he had an even firmer grasp than before. Now with his degree, Tudor was free to practice medicine independently, which he did for some time. Moving back to Virginia to be with his family, he set up a practice close by, taking on apprentices as the years went on. The early 1800s came and went, and America as a country began to flourish. Times changed. Everyone grew older while Tudor stayed static, forever twenty-one, caught between youth and adulthood. He moved about every decade to avoid detection, but as time went on he found that his medical degree was becoming outdated. Around the time slavery officially ended in America was when Tudor returned to pursue another medical degree. He was better this time, graduating on time, having learned just as much as when he started, and moving back to his family. They continued to move across the country, generation after generation all knowing of Tudor's nature and that he posed no threat to them, that he was there to help and even protect them. With his family past slaves, and having dropped his father's surname, Tudor had no inheritance or riches - he made his own way as a doctor. By the late 1800s, Tudor had his third medical degree and had the idea that maybe he wanted to continue on with his life like this, endlessly learning, making his cursed life one worth living while helping others as he was at it. So he began to attend high school as well, starting fresh, living the whole experience throughout the years. He learned everything he could, about subjects and different medical fields, and most importantly he learned about people. He met so many different people, made so many dynamic relationships, that it made his long life so far worth living. It was the early 1900s he began to have encounters with other vampires. He'd only happened upon others like him every once in a blue moon, and the only thing that ever really concerned him with them was to keep them out of the way of his family. But it was around this time he met the first friendly vampires, or at least as friendly as red-eyed vampires could get. She, Emily, was a fairly new vampire - just forty years old. Though she saw the moral complications of feeding on humans, she couldn't stop herself, much like most vampires. Tudor helped her find a different way without hurting people and still sating her desire for human blood - he provided her with bags of blood drawn from people, every month. From there they formed a friendship, but Emily found he was quite trusting once he became friends with someone, and took advantage of that. When blood bags weren't enough, she turned on him, attacking innocents in the city they had relocated to. She was building up a bodycount quickly and Tudor would've tried to control it if he weren't so protective of his family. It was too late though - the last straw was her careless biting of one of his great, great nieces. She didn't survive the transformation and to put it simply, Emily didn't survive either. It was the first time Tudor had killed someone like him. It had been the first time in a long time in fact, that he'd killed someone. The memories of it fresh in his head, Tudor moved away to attend school elsewhere, away from his family for a good few decades. He returned only when his bitterness was no longer a hazard to them, and so life went on. Time went on faster, change picked up speed. Tudor was cycling through the decades fast, and adjusting to each quickly. He knew several languages as a result of college electives and minors, and knew so many people and saved so many people... His life as a vampire has been difficult like any of them, but he's worked hard to have what he has now, in the twenty-first century. Now, he's recently moved from his stay in his home state Virginia, all the way across the country to Washington where he's starting fresh once again. Quite unaware of his own world for how valiantly he's avoided participating in it, Tudor has little clue of the significance of his move to Seattle with his distant cousin Rose at his side, acting as his grandmother and guardian. He's picked up high school as a junior and that's where his story resumes. | ooc info ☆ NAME eder ☆ OTHER CHARACTERS n/a ☆ timezone cst ☆ aNY OTHER INFO?
