Olivia stretched out her legs, her toes searching for the edge of her mattress. Her alarm had gone off moments ago, alerting her that it was seven am on a Saturday morning. Now, usually, getting up at seven am any day of the week was a challenge for this little blondie, let alone on a Saturday. But, today was the first day of the Barney’s sale. And her father had officially returned her credit card to her; which meant one thing. SHOPPING! Jumping out of bed, Olivia hurried through her morning routine – showering, applying her favourite makeup and styling her hair. Today looked like it was going to be cold an miserable like most days in Seattle, so she opted for a thick knit pink and cream jumper and a pair of skinny jeans, pared with a new pair of cream suede boots. Her makeup was kept simple, with nudes and browns and her blonde hair hung in loose curls around her face.
After hours and hours of exploring Barney’s and trying on various things with her twin, Olivia was exhausted and starved – and her father was over a thousand dollars poorer. It was expensive having a daughter who was addicted to designer clothes and shoes; especially when there was a sale on. Today alone, Liv had bought a couple of new jackets, a few pairs of jeans and of course tops to go with them, a new leather Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and not forgetting her new favourite possession, a pair of bright pink Manolo Blahnik ankle strap sandals, that would go with approximately three outfits. Her sister had taken off as soon as they left Barney’s; having made plans to meet some friends. So now Liv was wandering through Seattle mall, loaded with bags, hungry and without a ride home.
Her post shopping bliss though was currently intoxicating her. Before she realised where she was heading, she found herself outside a small little coffee shop that was advertising its famous salted caramel cheese cake. Usually, Liv watched what she ate; designer clothes weren’t exactly fat friendly. But she was currently too happy to care about calorie counting at that very moment; and after hours of shopping she deserved an award and some sugar. The blonde joined the end of the line, and once it was her turn ordered a slide of the cheese cake alongside a skinny hot chocolate. The coffee shop was rather busy inside, people all typing away at macbooks and chatting with friends, but a quick glance out of the window told her that there were a few seats outside that were still open.
With all her bags in toe, she headed outside with her cheesecake and hot chocolate and slid into an empty seat. As she dropped her bags onto the ground, she accidentally knocked the guy that was sitting behind her rather hardly. ”Oh my goodness I’m so sorry,” she muttered, turning around to come face to face with perhaps the most beautiful fan she had ever seen.

| H umans, they were a weird species. Not that Mason could talk as…you know, he was one once. But it had been so long that these days they simply just fascinated him. He liked to mingle amongst humans, they were so easy to manipulate - it was his face, his persona that drew people in. Of course, once they actually got to know him they soon hated who he was. It wasn’t that he intentionally made people angry - but it just came part and parcel with the rest of him. He wandered around the city of Seattle, taking in all the sites and sounds. It was fresh here - there was hardly ever any sun which made his life easier, and people tended to par-take in petty crimes. His favourite kind of human, the stupid criminal. They tasted delicious. Mason was a strange vampire in the sense that he didn’t like what he was. He didn’t enjoy feeding on humans per-say - only the idiots that were on the wrong side of the law. Mainly he fed on blood bags swiped from local hospitals - if there was one thing he could do to make the creature he was better…that was it. Sure there was always the chance he might slip up - but after a hundred plus years of control, Mason was pretty good with his thirst. The mall was an interesting place. Kind of modern in a sense - they hadn’t been around when he was a teenager so he’d never been able to enjoy them the way teens seemed to now. Heading into the mall, Mason smirked to himself. This is where the vain, shallow people spent their weekends…well, that’s what he thought anyway. It was also the best place to find a nice criminal, shoplifting or mugging or something. Not that he was thirsty, his fresh crimson eyes accounted for that, but he was bored and hunting was always a bit of a time waster. Taking a seat at a small, independent looking coffee shop, Mason watched carefully. A waitress approached him to take his order, ugh…human stuff. “Just a black coffee, thanks.” He really didn’t understand the caramel, chocolate, minted, no dairy, no fat, skinny soy latte stuff people these days drank. As the waitress bought his coffee out, he sniffed…this stuff just wasn’t appetising. But it added to his ‘human’ charade. All of a sudden, Mason jolted forward, having been knocked by a girl from behind. He glanced over his shoulder at first, before turning his full attention to her. She was a pretty, young thing…with what he guessed was her full weights worth of bags. Mason smiled up at her, “it’s fine, you look like you’re struggling…” letting his gaze fall down to her bags, he raised his eyebrows. “Mind if I join you?” The words were out of his mouth before he knew what he was saying…what the heck? This was bound to be a classic ‘Mason’ mistake. |

It wasn’t a hidden fact that Olivia was spoilt. She was daddy’s little princess with unlimited access to his credit cards and copious amounts of money. Sure, he’d take her physical card off of her after the whole stealing his yacht incident at the gala last week, but she’d memorised the card number when she was like fourteen and she’d perfected his signature too. Shopping was an addition to her; she loved the buzz she got from it just as much as she loved fashion itself. What was there not to love? It changed every few weeks; never boring, always being updated and modern. One day, she’d have her own fashion line and she’d be creating her own fashion styles that people just like her would rush out to buy and wear!
Living in Seattle wasn’t exactly great; the weather pretty much sucked all the time. But compared to surrounding towns – i.e. Forks (yawn), Liv was glad that she found herself living in the city. It wasn’t like New York or Vegas, but it had its fair share of tourists and people passing through on a daily basis. You were sure never to run into the same person twice… unless you were Olivia Hayni and a certain guy kept turning up wherever you were. Ugh. Anyway, it had some decent shop, so generally Liv was happy… she just wished she had access to more designer shops like she would in Paris.
Another perk of living in a busy city like Seattle was that it gave Liv countless opportunities to people watch. It was one of her favourite pastimes, looking at the different outfits people wore day to day. Hell, she found herself people watching unintentionally these days, even just as she was walking down the street. She and Rubie had spent countless hours huddle in a Starbucks window, watching people hurrying past, and for each person they’d see, they’d make up the person’s story. It was a silly thing, but it kept her and her twin entertained. Obviously today, Rubie had ditched her, so it looked like she was people watching while she was alone. It wasn’t as fun without having someone to share theories about people with, and giggle at silly ideas, but it was a way to kill a bit of time.
Liv found herself smiling back at the stranger that she’d just whacked with her bags, blushing deeply out of embarrassment. ”Can’t resist a sale,” she laughed, nodding towards her bags. Shoving them behind the chair, she flopped down and popped her hot chocolate down on the table. His next question surprised her, it wasn’t one she had been expecting at all. ”Uh.. sure.”. With that, she slid her chair to make room at her table. She was good at making friends, she liked being popular, so having coffee with a stranger wasn’t an issue. ”I’m Livy by the way,”

[ | M ason looked the young girl up and down, she did look well dressed. After many years of walking this planet Mason had kept up with ‘fashion’ through the ages. It was funny to see what girls once thought of as attractive become frowned upon and ‘frumpy’. Ankles fully exposed these days - his brother would have a heart attack at the very thought. Back in the day girls were covered up and what lie beneath was kept secret until the wedding night. Now they wandered around in teeny tiny shorts and vest tops. Around him, even in this town that had a constant cloud cover people dressed for summer. It was strange, he never understood it. Surely girls froze half to death and all for the sake of some losers attention…well, usually. Mason himself chose to stick to a pair of black jeans, a plain t-shirt and his leather jacket. Simple, yet effective. He smiled, a girl who liked to shop - how original. “Who can?” his voice dripped with sarcasm, but there was a part of him that hoped she didn’t notice. It wasn’t that he set out to offend people - he just didn’t have the greatest ‘social’ skills. In fact, he was pretty much an introvert when it came to communicating with food. Sure, he chose not to feed on the innocent - but they were still kind of walking blood bags in his mind. Years of not being a human, it was hard to keep his humanity in check. It made life alone easier, not to have…you know… feelings. He noted her surprise at his question, Mason figured it wasn’t exactly the ‘done’ thing. Humans were wary of everyone they didn’t already know. And with good reason. There were bad, bad people roaming the earth these days. “Livy? That’s short for Olivia I’m assuming?” Mason rose from the chair he currently occupied and slid into the one opposite Livy… “I’m Mason, it’s nice to make your acquaintance,” ugh - too polite, humans didn’t talk like that. Cringing slightly, he glanced around them. People had noticed the move - cute girls were eyeing Livy with envy. Ha! They’d had a lucky escape when it came to Mason, he liked to play games. “So, what has you shopping like a mad woman? And alone too? Should I be worried that some jock-type boyfriend of yours is going to turn up and threaten me?” He smirked, the idea of some teen dweeb squaring up to him would be more than fun. In fact, he kind of hoped it happened. |

One of the things that fascinated Olivia about fashion was how it had transformed throughout the different time periods all over the world. One of the books that she had actually read, Fashion through the ages: From overcoats to petticoats to Daisy Dukes, was all about how the style of clothing had progressed from being conservative in the 1800s to provocative in the twenty first century. Personally, her personal style was definitely a lot provocative than it was conservative; she liked tight clothes that hugged her slim figure, rather than hid it. But she wasn’t one of these girls who walked around with their boobs out all the time. Liv liked to think she had a balance of high fashion and high class. Compared to men’s fashion, women’s fashion was a minefield; and that’s before you’d even considered different women’s body shapes!
The blonde grimaced at the sound of her full name. The only person who called her Olivia on a regular basis was her mom and grandma. It always made her feel like she was in trouble or was about to get roped into something she didn’t particularly want to do. ”Yeah, but I hate it. So Liv or Livy will do just fine,” She gave him a small smile, hoping it didn’t come out too blunt. As he moved to site opposite her, Liv arranged the bags neatly at the site of her, now that there was a little more room. Nice to meet your acquaintance… what an odd term that she was pretty sure she’d never heard outside of old movies. ”Uh sure, nice to meet your acquaintance.” Livy liked making friends; she was a bit of a social butterfly, so having a stranger joining her for coffee wasn’t a huge deal.
Livy scooped her hot chocolate mug up off of the table and cradled it in her hands before taking a small sip. ”Barney’s sale and return of my credit card…” she answered with a small shrug of her shoulders. Compared to previous shopping trips though, this was hardly shopping like a mad woman; in fact today she’d actually quite reserved with her spending. ”I was with my sister, but she ditched to go meet some friends, and took the car we came in.” Usually, the blonde always insisted on driving, unless there was going to be alcohol involved, in attempt to avoid situations like this. In hindsight, she probably should have asked Rubie to drop her off at the house before she went out. ”What brings you into the city?”
For a brief moment, an image of Seta flashed across her mind and his words about the movie theatre incident echoed in her mind if you were mine, I would have smashed his face in as soon as he laid a finger on you,” Ugh! No, she wasn’t going to think about that loser anymore! And technically she was still dating Colton anyway. ”No, my boyfriend’s out of town for a few days – so no jock boyfriend is going to show up and threaten you, you can drink your coffee in peace.” Liv said with a laugh, shaking off the annoyance shed’ worked herself up int. ”What about you, can I expect a jealous crazy girlfriend to attack me accusing me of stealing her man?” Unsurprisingly, that had happened before.

| M ason noticed how Livy reacted to the use of her full name, it was funny. Most people these days tried to always shorten their names, or make it something it wasn’t. it was somewhat amusing. He tried to hide his smirk, she was feisty that was for sure. Little princess could give as good as she got it would seem. “Okay, Livy it is…” he nodded, wanting to play completely fair. It wasn’t like him to piss off a human, only vampires really brought his fun side out to play. Her voice was dripping with sarcasm and curiosity - he found it interesting. She was more observant than he had given her credit for. He chuckled, “sorry, that was extremely formal I admit,” Mason wasn’t completely comfortable with so many eyes on the two of them. Usually interaction with humans was on a slightly more low-key scale. Watching her sip her drink, Mason shifted slightly. He couldn’t remember what it felt like to be human, now-a-days stuff tasted almost bland, or ashy to him. Food wasn’t easily consumed but could be done if necessary. “Ah, of course…” he really wasn’t interested in shopping, the last thing he’d brought was the newest version of iPhone, keeping up with the latest tech was more interesting to him. “So you’re stuck here until someone picks you up? That doesn’t seem fair…” Mason frowned a little, he’d never have left any one of his brothers behind anywhere…but then they’d been as close as anything and it was over a hundred years ago. Things were a little different then, sibling respect and all that. “I was just stopping by, I’m heading to the small town of Forks…maybe you know of it?” It was more than just stopping by, Seattle was a big city he could get lost in for a little while. He liked the bigger cities. Oooo Mason noticed he’d touched a nerve slightly. This was going to be more than fun. He noticed her mood change slightly…someone obviously had her back up. He chuckled, “you’re safe as far as I’m concerned, crazy ex-girlfriends are one of the reasons I’ve been moving around,” Well, it was sort of true - his reputation was not a good one when it came to female vampires. He’d never settled, and broken plenty of promises and hearts along the way. Human and Vampire…though he wasn’t sure a vampire heart could be broken. “Though we seem to be causing quite a stir just by sitting here…” Mason had noticed that the two of them had received numerous jealous stares from people walking past or sitting close by. Humans were so fickle. |

Whenever she met new people, the blonde never introduced herself as Olivia; much to her mothers’ dismay. According to socialite rules, a lady should always be addressed by her full name. But in Livy’s opinion, those rules were too old fashioned and no longer worked. Full first names made everything too formal and made it difficult to build meaningful relationships with anyone. It stopped you from becoming too familiar. She gave him a wide smile as he agreed to call her by her nickname. Liv may not have been the smartest cookie, but she was observant. She noticed things more than people realised at times; and often used that to her advantage. ”It’s okay. I guess you’re into your old movies,” she shrugged. It happened to her before now, phrases from some of her favourite tv shows and movies somehow found their way into her own vocabulary.
So maybe spring time wasn’t exactly hot chocolate weather, but considering they were in Seattle, spring and winter basically merged together with the same weather; the rules didn’t apply. Plus… it was hot chocolate. The rules never applied to it, it was just too delicious. Liv agreed with a dramatic huff, ”Everyones busy for an hour or so too… so unless I can hail a cab, then I’m stuck in the city,”. It was rare that the twins were ever apart, but recently they had been developing themselves outside of just being the twins. And honestly, it made them closer than they had been before. ”Eh, it’s alright. I dragged her shopping in the first place.” Liv dragged her free hand that wasn’t grasping a mug, through her hair, brushing strays away from her face. The mention of Forks made her give him a questioning glance, with a raised eyebrow. It wasn’t exactly a place that people visited just because – there wasn’t exactly a lot there.”I do,” she nodded, ”Not exactly your typical vacation spot. You have family there?”
”You move around because you have crazy ex girlfriends?” It came out as more of as gasp than she had intended. Livy had thought that the concept of having to relocate because of a crazy ex was exaggerated for tv and movies, not like it actually happened. She couldn’t imagine being so hung up on an ex she went psycho… which was funny considering she was a little bit crazy and needy at times. Gazing over at Mason though, she kinda got it… he was extremely gorgeous, and endearing; it was easy to see why women would get hung up on him when things ended. ”You must be one damn good boyfriend for them to go crazy when you leave them. Though to be honest, that kinda makes me think one of them is going to jump out and break my nose with her Jimmy Choo.”
At his words, Liv looked around and blushes when she realised that everyone sat around – and even the ones just passing by were staring. They were gazing lovingly towards Mason, but sending daggers towards Liv. Blush coloured her cheeks and she cringed. She was used to women hating her, especially when their boyfriends tried hard to get her attention or came onto her, but it was different. She was feeling a little exposed. ”Oh boy,” she muttered, fishing a pair of sunglasses out of her bag and sliding them over her eyes. ”They’re all staring at you mainly. Are you famous or something?”

| M ason shrugged, old movies were a good cover - that would be the best to stick to… “timeless classics I like to call them,” he smiled at her. She was a bit too modern, impatient for what Mason usually chose to spend time on, but at least she was someone to talk to. It made him appear more human. Although his eyes weren’t exactly subtle - very few people dared to comment on the red hue…mainly out of fear. There weren’t many humans that could totally handle the truth behind vampires, let alone want to know. It was so obviously there but humans chose not to see it. Something that made Mason wonder what it was that had kept such fragile mortals alive for so long. They were basically sitting ducks. The young girl - Livy - didn’t look too uncomfortable in his presence. This gave Mason the green light to relax a little. Years of practise had made him slightly easy around humans, but only if he knew they weren’t going to jump up and attack him or run away screaming. She didn’t seem bothered to do either. “I’m getting the impression that bothers you…not that I blame you,” he hated being completely alone himself, and feeling abandoned was never good. “Ah! So really, you’re in this situation because your own actions…that’s even more frustrating,” Mason smirked, convinced this little princess act was exactly that. She was much more that a bombshell with a credit card. Her reaction startled him a bit…he figured it was a small town, but perhaps not that small. “Oh, an old friend recommended I check it out, on my list of towns to see before I die…” letting out a small chuckle Mason mentally rolled his eyes. If only she knew that it would be a LONG time before that ever happened. “Is there not really much to see there?” Livy’s response got him questioning his own path. Shaking his head, he sighed, “it was only a little joke…only a couple have been that crazy…and I got them the help they needed…” not entirely true of course, there had been more than a couple but Mason chose it best to not completely freak Livy out. The help…well that would be seen probably more as torture in this modern day. “They also didn’t quite have your taste when it came to fashion, so I reckon you’re safe there…” he winked. “Oh, of course…have you never heard of me?” Mason waited a couple of minutes, letting the awkward moment sink in before bursting into laughter. “I’m not famous - sorry to disappoint - I wasn’t entirely sure why everyone was staring. Had hoped you could shed light on that one.” Of course, he knew they’d picked up on his features - everything drew people in, attracted to his face, his appearance, his voice. It all added up. Still, it was fun to watch other humans squirm when they didn’t understand what it was drawing people in. Although, looking the girl over quickly once more, it could be her they were interested in after all. |

Livy nodded her head in agreement with Mason. ”Well some of them are pretty good, but then again some are just plain terrible,” Then again, a lot of the movies that came out these days were complete garbage; Hollywood was nothing if not consistent. She was an old romantic in the sense of movies; she got swept up in the whole notion of men being gentlemen and women being glamorous and fabulous. Of course, men today weren’t always gentlemen and a lot of women weren’t always glamorous or fabulous; but at least Livy tried to be both.
Being from an elite family had provided the blonde with a collection of social skills. She was able to socialise with anyone in an appropriate manner than her mother approved of. Plus, it also helped that she just so happened to enjoy chatting to people and was a complete social butterfly; especially when it came to cute guys; and Mason was on hella cute guy. ”Well yeah, being alone can be boring. Life’s more fun with entertainment.” She was rarely ever alone; she usually surrounded herself with friends and kept herself busy. Silence scared her. Maybe it was a side effect to having a twin; even in the womb she was never alone. Even when she was on her own; usually designing some future fashion pieces she wanted to create, she had the company of music or some trashy reality TV show. Keeping up with the Kardashians was a guilty pleasure; she somewhat modelled herself on Kim; well apart from the whole sex tape thing. ”Are you travelling alone?” He’d said that he was moving around because of ex’s, but he’d never really specified if he was alone or with friends. ”Technically, its Barney’s fault that I’m in this situation. And it’s hard to stay mad at my mother ship,” She laughed lightly, quoting Rachel Green, her spirit animal.
The look of surprise coloured Liv’s features before she had chance to stop it. Forks was on his place to visit before he died? It takes all sorts, she guessed. ”Well, you may die of boredom there,” she said sarcastically, once again taking a sip of her hot chocolate. Briefly she noted that Mason hadn’t actually touched his coffee, but she let the thought slip out of her mind quickly; maybe he liked it cold. Liv shook her head no at Mason’s question, causing her loose waves to fall around her face. ”I mean… there was a lame carnival there; though that may have left now. Uhhhh, other than that… umm there are mountains’ to hike?”
A lot of girls that Livy socialised with could be considered bunny boilers, so it was unsurprising that she had taken his word as gospel at first. Men, especially men that looked as good as Mason, did crazy things to women’s mental health at times, and guys usually did run away; physically and metaphorically which often just made the women more crazy. ”I’d probably sleep with one eye open then if I were you.” Regardless if he had been joking, she had a feeling that there were in fact a few girls who were still crazy over him. Call it women’s instinct if you will. Liv grinned at Mason’s compliment; she was a sucker for them. ”So, what, they’re likely to jump out and break my nose with target pumps instead?” Sarcasm dripped from every word and a smirk tugged at her lips. Dramatically, she pretended to check over her shoulder for any women wielding shoes above their head.
”That’s a shame. Though you could definitely pass as a model. That’s probably why people are staring. They’re trying to work out if they know you and admire you,” For a moment, she did the same. Her blue eyes soaked in his appearance. Perfect nose and jaw line, thick brown hair, and his eyes; they were a weird colour. They were a colour that she had never seen in eyes before now. They had an odd red glow to them. Contacts she thoughts – men were just as bad as women when it came to their appearance in some respect. Part of her wanted to ask; but that was rude. Shaking her head lightly, to rid her thoughts, she rolled her eyes. ”But of course you know that, and I don’t want to inflate your ego anymore,”
